Hello all,

Today Rick was transferred from the hospital in london to a hospice in the kitchener-waterloo area. Rick tolerated the transfer well, and the hospice is lovely. Obviously, our focus is now to make sure rick is comfortable and this is the best setting for that. It is also a blessing that we have so much family in the KW area for support. Everyone is doing well, and we are so thankful to be out of the hospital and into a more private and comfortable setting.

Sending love to all, and once again thanking you for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

  2. Mr. Steffler is my dearest and most influential teacher of all time. He taught me to write, to stand up for myself, and to try even when the odds were stacked against me. I know he argued on my behalf (along with Mr. Webster) so I got the English grad award back in 94', much to the shock of many. I have your binder of work in my basement, Mr. Steffler. I am a successful teacher, writer, and mother because of you.

  3. What a beautiful, touching comment. A teacher who touched HEARTS and inspired MINDS is something that should never go unnoticed. I love you Uncle Rick and you are a constant inspiration to me. x

  5. Dear Rick, Kathleen, Matt, Holly and the rest of the family!
Inspiring is likely the one word that would best describe Rick to me! He quoted Northrop Frye in his INSPIRING essay written to his students of the Writers' Craft during their exam...Now Josh is wading thru' his Motive for Metaphor...and once again I'm thinking of our dear Mr. Steffler. Love and prayers for all of you. Holly your pictures were of FAIRY TALE PRINCESS dreams. Absolutely breathtaking...I know your dad is sooooo proud of you all. He has nothing to be regretful for - his has been a life WELL LIVED by all counts. Not everyone can say that. Miracle notwithstanding, these emails show that he has loved much and been loved much - a beautiful testimony to an inspiring man, teacher and father. Blessings to all of you.
